Built out in the early 2000s, Cardinia Lakes is now 15 to 20 years old. The original gas and electric hot water units installed when the estate went up are built to last 10–15 years — which is exactly where they are now, failing in batches especially on cold winter mornings. Twenty years on, the original tapware, toilet cisterns, flexi-hoses and copper are reaching the end of their seal life. We see worn mixers, running toilets, weeping connections and the occasional burst flexi-hose — the last one a common cause of indoor flooding. We recommend replacing braided flexi-hoses every 5–7 years before they let go.
